Delheim Wine Estate, South Africa

Delheim wines (www.delheim.co.za) were kind enough to offer the expedition a warm reception in Cape Town and provided sponsorship in kind of delicious South African wine for the Phoenician Evening at the Royal Cape Yacht Club as well as hosting the Crew and Captain during a day visit to the Delheim estate.

Delheim has loaded some of its Muscadel 2008 with the ship’s cargo to follow its ancient trading route back to Syria. The Muscadel grape is the world’s oldest known grape variety – it has been cultivated and harvested in the Mediterranean for more than 3000 years and some wine historians say it was the first grape to evolve. It was certainly the first grape to be used in winemaking! We are very grateful to the Delheim team for there support and would like to share the photographs  from the fantastic day that we spent at Delheim hosted by Nora and Erhardt. In true Phoenician spirit "Phoenicia" now carries wine as cargo on her voyage to circumnavigate Africa.
