IMPORTANT EXPEDITION
ANNOUNCEMENT - 13th January 2009 The Phoenicia team have successfully completed phase one of the expedition; sailing from Syria to the Republic of Yemen. The various challenges the ship and crew have faced over the last 5 months have resulted in considerable delays to the planned schedule of the expedition. These delays mean that a number of weather windows around Africa can no longer be met. Rather than trying to play catch up against the odds and battling with adverse winds, the decision has been made to put in place a break of six months to return the expedition to its original schedule of prevailing winds and currents. Phase two will therefore see Phoenicia sail again on the 1st September 2009 when weather conditions will be much more favourable for the voyage. Many will know that the Phoenician’s original circumnavigation is believed to have taken 3 years to complete. This modern day ‘Phoenicia’ expedition looks set to take 2 years to complete and this break will enable us to enhance our plans for port stops and maximise opportunities for new and existing crew members and sponsors alike. We will be fully back in September but will post relevant news and other items over the intervening months. With grateful thanks for everyone's continued support. Return to home page. Click here |
