Upon
his return to the UK Expedition Leader Philip Beale will be available to
make a number of presentations on Phoenicia over the next 6 months . An
experienced public speaker to audiences of all ages, Philip draws upon his
experiences of the Borobudur and Phoenician Ship Expedition. Those

Phase 2 Crew
Applications
Applications
are now open for Phase 2 of the Phoenicia voyage. Phase 2 will see the ship
set sail from Yemen in August 2009 and embark upon the circumnavigation of
Africa which will be completed in summer 2010. We are seeking adventurers
with sailing experience and technical skills (such as engineering, carpentry
etc) are a significant advantage. Please visit the

Expedition Artist launches exhibition
in L.A.
Phoenicia Expedition Artist Danielle Eubank
will be presenting her latest work in an exhibition titled “Oil on
Water” January 17 – February 22 at
Found Gallery
in Los Angeles. The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of Artists
Talks from Eubank about her work and experience of being an Expedition
Artist.

Damascus Arab Capital of
Culture 2008
In
2008 Syria was proud to have been awarded Damascus as Arab Capital of
culture. The launch of the Phoenician Ship Expedition was one of the
key events hosted in Syria throughout the year and marked the launch of the
expedition and a
celebration of ancient Phoenician culture. This event was
sponsored by Byblos Bank Syria, The Syrian Chamber of Shipping, Damascus
2008 and supported by the British Syrian Society. Attended by Syria's First
Lady Asma Assad, the launch event was a cultural spectacle with performances
and speeches on the jetty at Arwad harbour in front of the replica

Phoenicia features on BBC's FastTrack
In September 2008 BBC News programme FastTrack
will premier two short documentaries covering the launch and the first leg
of the Phoenician Ship Expedition. BBC presenter Karen Bowerman sailed on
Phoenicia during the first passage from Syria to Egypt to capture an essence
of life on board the replica 600 BC ship. To watch the programme

Expedition photographer launches solo exhibition
UK
photographer Jennie Hill travelled to Syria to capture the completion of the
ship construction and the launch ceremony of the Phoenician Ship Expedition.
In October 2008 these photographs were showcased as part of her exhibition
'Raw Travel' at the Tide Has Turned Gallery in Beaminster, Dorset. Jennie
said "The pictures capture the lives of the local people seeing their

Syria's First Lady visits Arwad
In
July 2008 Syria's First Lady Asma Assad visited Arwad, the small island near
Tartous, Syria, which is home to a unique international project. In a pledge
of her support to the project the First Lady accompanied Expedition Leader
Philip Beale to the construction site of Phoenicia, a replica 600 BC
Phoenician Ship which will attempt to recreate the first circumnavigation of
Africa. In August the First Lady will return to Arwad to attend the official
launch ceremony and sail onboard the ship for the maiden voyage.
Phoenicia press conference at the Syrian Embassy in London
On
19th May 08 the Syrian Ambassador, HE Dr Sami Khiyami, hosted a drinks
reception and press conference at the Syrian Embassy in London to mark the
imminent launch of the Phoenician Ship Expedition. The event was attended by
over 100 members of the press and VIP's.
Speakers at the event included the Ambassador, the Expedition Leader
Philip Beale, and Dr. Eugene Rogan from Oxford
University.
